Sewing Sneak Peek

I have a couple of things that I've been working on and I will be showing in future posts. I had the wonderful joy of spending all of last weekend drawing so be on the lookout for a portrait illustration coming soon.

I started sewing a new garment recently, a pleated blouse. I have a big project due soon so, unfortunately, I have had to put this sewing project on hold for a bit but you can get a sneak peek for now.

I hope you are having a great week. We are only one day away from the greatly beloved weekend!

NYFW Favs: Part II

Here you have part II of my NYFW favs. There are many more designs I love from these past few weeks but, as you might notice, I was distinctly interested in a couple of specific aspects for each set. Part I featured bright and bold designs filled with color. This installment, on the other hand, focuses on flowy silhouettes and muted, neutral colors.

My style tends to go in either of those ways even though it can be more represented by the style on this set and just a few accents of bolder, brighter colors.

I was particularly inspired by Jason Wu's collection. He has been a favorite designer of mine for  quite a while and I always find myself loving his prints. This collection is no exception.

Illustration: Matchy-matchy

I am obsessed with the matchy matchy trend that has been going on for a while. Therefore, I loved the idea of pairing up the Balmain suit I illustrated last week with a print I designed earlier this year. You can find that print here.

I think it looks pretty cool. What do you guys think about this trend?

Someone else that also recently shared her love for the matchy-matchy trend is the very talented Maddie with the beautiful top and shorts she made. You can check that out here. Hint, hint - that's where the name for this illustration came from.

I hope you had a lovely weekend.

NYFW Favs: Part I

Fashion week has me so inspired, therefore, I have compiled some of my favorite designs from various designers and I will be showing them in two parts. I feel like drawing them all. They are all worthy of their own illustration.

These designs caught my eye because of their bold and vibrant colors, which are pretty obvious and in-your-face in a great way. The J. Crew collection specifically really surprised me! I don't know why, but I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did. Those brocade pants are at the top of my wish list.

Stay tuned for part two.

I also want to take this opportunity to welcome some lovely people that have started following recently but most of all I want to thank each and every one of you for the wonderful words of encouragement and heartfelt support. I cannot express how much I appreciate it.

Illustration: Balmain

Fashion Week is in full swing and there's much inspiration to go around. I will be sharing some of my favorite designs from NYFW soon, but before that I had to illustrate this look from Balmain's pre-Spring 2013. The structured and masculine silhouette balanced out with a few feminine touches like its pink color palette really caught my eye. You can get inspired by the whole collection here.

New Fabric

It's been a while since my last personal sewing project, which was this dress if you haven't seen it before. It was so much fun working on that one and I've been wanting to make something new   for myself ever since I finished it.
The stars aligned yesterday morning when I found myself with some extra time after a class and decided to take a trip to the fabric store and found these beauties - not to mention they were discounted!

The first two floral fabrics are a beautiful gauze with thick and thin stripes. As soon as I saw them I knew I wanted to make a cute button up shirt or pussy bow blouse with them.
The last one is a peach voile that was really difficult to photograph. I have not yet decided what to do with this one but it already has a comfortable spot in my fabric stash.

I will not have time to start drafting patterns until next week because I am super busy with assignments but I have been having fun sketching ideas for the blouses. There are so many possibilities that I just can't decide.

Illustration: Emma Stone

I was really inspired when I started drawing this one. I had been working a lot with watercolor illustrations, as you can see in my previous posts, but I suddenly started going back to my old style. You may not have see some of my earlier drawings from a couple of years ago but I used to draw very detailed portraits (and I still do sometimes). That is a quality that reflects my personality a lot, focusing very much on ever component of the drawing and on every pencil stroke; doing something very detailed. Therefore, I really liked the idea of trying out a more photo-realistic fashion illustration and this happened.

I love Emma and it was only a matter of time before I started drawing her.

Illustration: printing

I made these two prints from my latest illustration (which I will be properly posting soon) to try a new print shop I've found. I also got and A3 sized print of the green one which I hung up in my room yesterday.

I showed you guys the work in progress drawing for this one on my last post along with some other unfinished work.

I am so excited about September, mostly because fall is coming and the holidays are just around the corner. There's something in the air this time of the year; something warm and special, something cozy with a hint of festive along with renewed hope and expectations for the new year. Why do you like September and what do you hope to accomplish this month?
